2021 Te Māuru-e-taki-nei

We have been lucky to have Harold visit us. We were learning about Friendships . What makes me a good friend? We discussed what a good friend is, and how to develop the qualities to enable strong and positive relationships with others.  This is some of the fun Mrs Bayley's homeroom got up to.

 This week we have been learning the digraph 'qu'.  Bo - "If you see a q, it will almost always be with a u because they are best friends!" Taylah - "We have been working hard to get our sounds right!" Mitchell - "We have been learning about words that have digraphs. Digraphs are two letters that work together as friends." Hayley - "We have been learning key words that have digraphs." Matthew and Lacey - "Look at the words and photos of us!"

 During reading time we read our poems everyday.  When not with the teacher we can read the big books or library books.  Kaka group are creating posters about Elephants the book they read this week.

Today our hub was responsible for presenting assembly.  Well done to those who stood in front of the whole school to lead the assembly.  Thank you Akeila for helping us.  Panharith and Sebastian read some of their writing which we were very proud of.   Congratulations to all those who received certificates and thank you ticket prizes.

 This week the Semicircle Math's group are learning to write numbers the right way around.  First we wrote our numbers, then we checked they were the right way around using our number line. Next we got to make them with playdough.  We are really proud of ourselves!

We are so lucky that every second Wednesday the Christchurch City Libraries Bus comes to visit us at South Hornby School. Today Miss Hollings' reading class got to go over and take a look at the wonderful books they have on offer.  Check out these superstar readers!

 On Thursday during our read and feed time the Kaka group presented their play The Ugly Duckling.  They did a great job and we are looking forward to see more plays from other groups.

 We are learning our before and after numbers to 20.

 This week we have had a shuffle around in our reading and maths classes, so many of us are now with different teachers. In Miss Hollings' maths class today our focus was on using inside voices - take a look at some of the fun activities we have been doing!

LIBRARY BUS VISIT   We were very fortunate to have the first library bus visit to our school! We were read to first as a whole hub and then we got to visit the bus. Have a look at all the fun we had and the books we got to explore and learn about.
